Physical Science can seem initially difficult because it applies math to the concepts shared in many sections of the book. The videos we produced walks the learner through the math, step by step. Any of the selected videos can be watched multiple times, slowed down, sped up and paused to enable the student to gain a sound understanding.

Each half of a chapter in the 2nd ed book they call them modules consists of one lesson.
Each lesson is covered in approximately 1 week, adjusted as needed. The length of videos per lesson is approximately 1 hour per unit. Each lesson is followed by a Class quiz that is automatically graded. Parents can inform me if they want their child ren to have the option of taking a quiz more than once if they score low on a particular quiz. At the end of the semester, the student sends us a notification that they have completed the course, and we will send the transcripts.
The videos cover the material of each unit and are broken up topically. For example, the entire set of videos for a unit might be 55 minutes, but there may be videos averaging minutes. This enables flexibility for a student to view all the material at once or a video or two a day to better accommodate a more active leaner. Hi Vince. Sorry about the delay. I started to answer earlier and got pulled away. We do quizzes which averages 16 per semester, and the question quantity ranges from 12 - 15 per quiz. If you have other questions, please feel free to contact me. The students are supposed to read it on their own, and they are doing experiments together in class. For example: Chapter 1 is divided into module 1 and module 2. Each module represents a single week of material.
Chapter 2 is divided into module 3 and module 4 etc. Each module has a quiz that can be taken online and is self-grading. New this year, I also provide class notes that your son can fill in the blanks as he watches the videos. These lectures were taped in a live classroom setting, edited, and now can be viewed as many times as needed during the semester. Online Just the written ones from the test book? I recommend that he takes the end of the Chapter quizzes first and reviews the answers afterward. Then he takes the online quiz that is submitted automatically for a weekly grade. The end of the chapter quizzes can be used not only as a good reinforcement of the material but also used as a makeup grade if the online quiz score is low. Jay L. Wile, published by Apologia Educational Ministries. Exploring Creation With Physical Science is very readable, it pulled me in and I couldn't put it down for awhile. Wile's writing style is conversational and friendly. Second Edition Books at CBD Ideally but not necessarily your child should have completed a pre-algebra course before starting this program. Officially, Dr. Wile recommends that the student should have finished 7th grade math before starting this course.
Your student will need to be able to understand the math equations in Apologia's Physical Science. Unit multipliers click the link for a mini lesson are the most commonly used math equation in the book. Sometimes called unit converters, these types of equations are important to master because the science student will see them often in the sciences. Wile explains how to use unit multipliers in Module 1 of the science book. I think the use of math in Apologia's Physical Science is a great benefit to the student. Wile suggests that the student keep a science notebook. Any composition book would work well, our favorite are the sewn composition books. As an alternative, I have made lab sheets that might be useful for a science notebook or co-op class to go with the study of Apologia's Physical Science. However, if your child is going to continue studying the sciences in college, I recommend that, at some point, the student should use a sewn composition or a bound book and learn how to make a very good lab notebook by hand.

Apologia also offers advanced courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. These are to be used after the corresponding foundational course from Apologia.
Advanced Physics is printed in only black and white, while the other textbooks are printed with color. I appreciate the options that accommodate a range of student goals—from the non-science oriented student who just wants the basics through the ambitious, college-bound student who wants advanced level courses. All courses offer engaging lab experiences. A Christian worldview permeates these courses. Apologia brings in not just creationist views, but also other scientific issues and ideas in relation to Christianity. Editions and Course Components Physics is still in the second edition, while all other courses are in their third editions. Third edition courses include a student textbook, a student notebook, and a solutions and tests book which comes packaged with one booklet of student tests.
Physics does not have a student notebook. Textbook courses come as two-volume sets. The third edition textbooks are softcover and student notebooks are spiral bound so they will lie flat. The softbound solutions and tests books have answer keys for questions from the student textbook as well as for the tests. Step-by-step instructions for lab experiments appear in each module of the student textbooks near the topics to which they relate. Third editions of the courses have optional audiobooks—MP3 CDs with student text content read aloud.
Students still need the printed textbook to read along with or refer to as they study and complete their work. Topics covered include the history of science, scientific method, how to perform experiments, simple machines, archaeology, rocks, minerals, fossils, geology, paleontology, evolution and interrelated theories, living organisms, organisms and energy, classifications, and the human body. It qualifies as a lab course with extensive experiments and recording activity. The course begins with an introduction to the basics of science that includes the scientific method, forming and testing hypotheses, conducting experiments, using measurements in science, scientific models, organizing data, and analyzing data. After that, the course devotes a number of chapters to chemistry, physics, and earth science--topics typically covered in a physcial science course. The fourteenth module, "Chemistry and Physics in the Life Sciences," briefly applies what students have been learning to the realm of living things as it discusses topics such as carbon chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical reactions in cells. The final module guides students through a research project on a topic of their choosing. The course includes one to four experiments within each module. These are supposed to be done when students encounter them in the textbook, and they should write their notes and observations in their Student Notebook.
The textbook also has one or two "You Do Science" activities in most of the modules for additional hands-on learning. These are fairly similar to the experiments, but they are optional, and they generally require simpler materials and equipment than do the other experiments. The experiments use mostly household type items, but there are some items you are not likely to have on hand such as insulated wire, Styrofoam balls, and tincture of iodine.
A list near the end of the textbook shows everything that is needed for each experiment, and it sometimes gives you alternatives for specialized equipment--such as cutting a CD in half to use in place of a prism.
